Brazilian Priest Puts Faith in His Revolver
“Thou shalt not kill” is one of the most sacred commandments, but that has not stopped one Brazilian parish priest from putting his faith in a six-shot revolver to defend his church from thieves.
Father Aluisio Weber keeps the .22-caliber revolver within easy reach as he goes about his duties at the Sao Paulo Church in Foz do Iguacu in the southern state of Parana. He armed himself after thieves robbed his church on 11 separate occasions, shooting dead an assistant priest and stealing an organ, sound equipment and other items.
Would he use the weapon? “If it’s in self-defense, then it’s not a sin,” he told Brazilian television.
