Interim Orange Unified School Supt. Named
Gretchen Hanson will become interim superintendent of the Orange Unified School District effective Sunday, district officials announced Monday. Hanson currently serves as an assistant superintendent at the district.
Outgoing interim superintendent Marilyn Corey handed in her resignation to board members April 14 after clashing with them in a closed session hearing.
A last-ditch effort by some board members to persuade Corey to return to her post until a permanent superintendent could be found apparently failed at another closed meeting Thursday night, district officials said. Corey and board members discussed their respective “frustrations” with each other, according to board President Maureen Aschoff.
“She has been an important part of the OUSD family and has personally touched each of our lives,” Aschoff said in a written release. “We recognize her accomplishments and avid commitment to the employees and students of Orange Unified.”
Hanson will be the third consecutive interim superintendent the district has had since May, 1992.
