Gateway Communications Inc.: An investor group led by Steel Partners II L.P. says it plans to wage a proxy fight for control of the board of Gateway Communications Inc., an Irvine-based computer networking company.

Steel Partners of New York said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it plans to take control of Gateway’s board at its annual meeting.

The group holds 1.16 million shares of Gateway stock, or a 22.4% stake. Members of the group include Steel Partners, a New York securities firm, as well as Adage Inc., a Westchester, Pa.-based maker of electronic equipment.
