PREP ROUNDUP : El Toro’s Lauby Strikes Out 20 in Victory Over Mission Viejo

El Toro pitcher Misty Lauby struck out 20 as the Chargers beat Mission Viejo, 3-0, in a South Coast League softball game Wednesday at El Toro.

Lauby, who had struck out as many as 15 in a game, struck out four in the fifth inning, one coming on a passed ball.

She allowed one hit and improved her record to 12-5.

Jennifer Hamer and Alicia Groshon each had two hits for the Chargers (16-8, 4-1).

In another South Coast League game:

Mater Dei 4, Capistrano Valley 3--Margaret Hollis drove in two runs and Patty Godwin improved to 14-2 for fifth-ranked Mater Dei (16-3, 5-0).

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 21, Los Amigos 0 (5, mercy)--Lisa Pitt pitched her second perfect game and sixth no-hitter this season, striking out nine for Kennedy (15-4-1, 9-0-1). Pitt had two hits, including a double, three runs scored and three runs batted in for the fourth-ranked Fighting Irish (15-4-1, 9-0-1), who scored 13 runs in the second inning to take an 18-0 lead.

Rancho Alamitos 2, Garden Grove 1--Jill Otto struck out 10 and hit a triple for Rancho Alamitos (10-6, 5-4). Rosalie Acuna had two hits, including a triple.

In the Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 2, Tustin 0--Mollie Mullen was two for two, stole two bases and scored both runs for Newport Harbor (7-8, 3-6). Jennie Colclasure pitched a one-hitter.

Santa Margarita 2, University 1--Laura Meith scored the winning run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Sheryl Bennett for Santa Margarita (14-9, 5-4).

In Century League boys’ tennis:

Orange 11 2/3, Villa Park 9 1/3--George Lopez and Jesse Wang swept in doubles, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3, for Orange (11-4, 4-3). Villa Park (11-2, 4-2) won eight of nine singles sets.

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 13, Kennedy 8--Tri Ton swept his singles sets for Los Amigos (6-10, 5-4).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 11 1/3, Western 9 2/3--Andrew Lai and Dennis Ho won two of three sets (4-6, 7-6, 6-0) for Valencia (9-7, 5-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 12, Laguna Hills 9--Ben Cohen and Joe Redford swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, for Laguna Beach (8-6, 4-1).

In the Sea View League:

University 15 2/3, Irvine 5 1/3--Robbie Wilkins won in No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-3, for University (11-4, 9-2).

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 15 2/3, Capistrano Valley 5 1/3--Fernando Machuca and Christian Fernandez swept their doubles sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, and Josh Fair swept in singles, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2, for the Diablos (6-7, 4-2).

San Clemente 12 1/3, Mater Dei 8 2/3--Daniel Roditi, returning from an injury, and doubles partner Jason Gavilan won their sets, 6-2, 6-1, and by default, for San Clemente (9-4, 3-3).

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 13 2/3, Servite 7 1/3--Tom Vota and Jason Kasner swept their singles sets to lead Fountain Valley (12-7, 10-3).

In the Sunset League individual golf finals:

McGraw wins--Servite sophomore Jeff McGraw shot six-over-par 148 over 36 holes at Green River to win the league’s individual title by two strokes over Jeff Farley of Huntington Beach.

Edison’s David Searle was third with 151 and Huntington Beach’s Greg Uberuaga was fourth with 153. The four advance to the Southern Section individual finals on May 23 at La Cumbre Country Club in Santa Barbara.

In a nonleague golf match:

El Toro 404, Western 417--Ben Garner shot two-under 34 Wednesday at El Toro Marine Base to finish with a one-under 71 in the match, which started April 11 at Cypress Golf Club for El Toro (10-5). Western’s Tiger Woods shot 35, his ninth consecutive under-par round, but finished at par 72.

In Sea View League boys’ swimming:

Woodbridge 120, Tustin 50--Turkish standout Derya Buyukuncu recorded two Orange County season bests, winning the 100 butterfly in 49.80 seconds and he 100 backstroke in 49.76 for Woodbridge (10-2, 6-1).

In Empire League boys’ track:

Cypress 68, El Dorado 68--Jeremy Becker won the long jump with a mark of 19-5 and triple jump in 44-1 for Cypress (4-3-1, 1-3-1).

Katella 78, Los Alamitos 58--Zach Sterling won the 100 hurdles in 15.6 and the 300 hurdles in 42.4 for Katella (3-2 in league).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Century 81, Laguna Hills 54--Jesse McDonald won the discus (160-6) and the shotput (44-4) for Laguna Hills (4-1 in league).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 92, San Clemente 39--Dan Lauder, Darrin Porter and Adalberto Sanchez each won two events for the Cougars (3-1-1 in league). Lauder won the 100 (11.3) and the 200 (23.4), Porter won the 400 (52.4) and the 800 (2:04.7) and Sanchez won the 1,600 (4:36.3) and the 3,200 (9:54).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 81, Servite 55--Jason Bader finished the league dual-meet season undefeated in the shotput and discus for Edison (4-3 in league). Bader won the discus in 173-2 1/2 and the shot in 46-10.

In Empire League girls’ track:

Katella 77, Los Alamitos 50--Stacey Wright won the high jump (4-8), long jump (15-5) and triple jump (34-1 1/4) for Katella (4-1 in league).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 87, San Clemente 31--Laurel Simpson won the 100 hurdles (16.5), the 300 hurdles (49.6) and the long jump (16-5) for Capistrano Valley (4-1 in league).

In Sunset League girls’ track:

Fountain Valley 107, Santa Ana 15--Marlene Lang won three events for Fountain Valley (6-1 in league). Lang won the 800 (2:40.7), the 100 hurdles (15.3) and the 300 hurdles (48.8). Teammate Natalie Romanoff won the 100 (13.2) and 400 (1:04.8).

Ocean View 94, Westminster 32--Jessica Funke won the 100 (13.2), 200 (28.2) and shotput (26-9) for Ocean View (3-4 in league).

In Century League boys’ volleyball:

Foothill 3, Villa Park 0--Marc Kruse had 12 kills for Foothill (7-3, 5-1) in a 15-7, 15-3, 15-7 victory. Craig LeSueur had five kills and 24 assists and Matt Nichols had eight kills.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 3, Valencia 2--Sean Morrison had 31 kills and James Hart had 16 as El Dorado won 15-9, 11-15, 15-5, 7-15, 15-13. Joe Reynozo had 20 kills for Valencia.

Esperanza 3, Cypress 0--Mike Allison had 17 kills and Jason Klems 15 for sixth-ranked Esperanza (11-2, 7-0) in a 15-11, 15-11, 15-11 victory.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 3, Century 0--Lance Merrifield led Costa Mesa (3-7, 2-5) to the 15-6, 15-7, 15-3 victory with 12 kills.

Laguna Beach 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Beau Bianchi, Dan Styles and Szilard Kovacs each had 10 kills for the second-ranked Artists (10-1, 7-0). Setter Kurt Nelson had 36 assists for Laguna Beach.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 3, Servite 0--Brian Myers had 14 kills and Kurt Seckington had 30 assists for the Barons (11-2, 9-2), who won, 15-5, 15-0, 15-3.
