LOS ANGELES : School Panel Ends Voting Rules That Favor Teachers
The leadership council at a Boyle Heights elementary school has agreed to abolish a voting system in which teacher ballots counted for 6.32 votes and parents counted for one but has not decided on an alternative procedure.
The willingness of Euclid Avenue Elementary School teachers and staff to abandon the so-called “ratio of equality” system came as a number of parent organizations in the Los Angeles Unified School District joined forces with a vocal group of Euclid parents to denounce the system.
Parents, supported by the PTA and others, on Monday demanded a return to the one-person, one-vote arrangement used during the election to decide on a new school calendar.
