LENNOX : Supervisors Suspended Over Deputies’ Party

Share

Six patrol supervisors from the Lennox sheriff’s station have been disciplined for failing to prevent a deputies’ pre-dawn beer party in Alondra Park that ended with a deputy firing his handgun into the ground.

Twenty-five deputies earlier were suspended for one to 30 days for participating in or failing to report the party, which was staged by deputies who were on standby duty during the Calabasas/Malibu fires Nov. 4. One deputy fired one or two shots from his 9-millimeter service pistol during the party.

Capt. Jack Scully, commander of the 245 deputies and supervisors assigned to the Lennox and Marina del Rey sheriff’s stations, said two lieutenants and four sergeants were punished with one- to 10-day suspensions without pay. Scully would not identify the supervisors.

Although none of the suspended supervisors participated in the beer party, Scully said, “they should have done some things to check more closely” on the deputies under their command that night.
