Next Stop: The Polo Lounge?
Polo has been known as the sport of kings--though organizers of the 1994 Legend’s Cup Saturday night say it’s also a sport fit for Kings (as in hockey) fans.
The reason is the format: a fast-paced three-on-three indoor polo tournament that will pit the six best arena players in the world against each other (the winner prodded by the promise of a $6,900 Piaget watch).
Actors William Devane and Steve Bond, singers Juice Newton and Micky Dolenz are among the horse-savvy celebs scheduled to ride in the Celebrity Pre-Game match at 7:30 p.m.
Not only is this an exciting weekend of polo for spectators--it could be the only one at the city-run L.A. Equestrian Center, 480 Riverside Drive, Burbank.
Make a night of it and dine at the L.A. Culinary Institute that overlooks the Equidome (other refreshments are also available), and all ticket holders are welcome to the post-match dance. Also, with your ticket stub, polo instructor Bruce Gaither is offering a free lesson. $15 general admission to $50 for center box seats.
