CAM Data Systems Reports Drop in 2nd-Quarter Profit

CAM Data Systems Inc. said its second-quarter profit declined 70% to $52,000, or 3 cents a share, from $177,000, or 9 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue for the period ended March 31 was $3.2 million, up 3.2% from $3.1 million.

The company, a manufacturer of point-of-sale and inventory management systems for small- and medium-sized retailers and wholesalers, said the earnings decline was related to increased research and the costs of restructuring a division.

For the first half of its fiscal 1994, CAM Data reported a $155,000 profit, or 8 cents a share, down 44% from $278,000, or 14 cents a share. Revenue climbed 12%, however, to a record $6.4 million from $5.7 million a year earlier.
