Share

The Westminster School District will hold a public hearing tonight to hear public views on whether to declare two elementary schools and part of a third campus surplus.

The district Property Advisory Committee is considering selling or leasing Virginia K. Boos Elementary and James W. Franklin Elementary and a 10-acre portion of Finley Elementary, spokeswoman Audrey Brown said.

The committee will make its recommendation to the school board in the next few months. After holding its own hearing, the full board will make its decision.

To optimize the number of students at schools throughout the district, the Board of Education voted this year to close Boos and Franklin in June, Brown said.

Surplus sites may be sold or leased at the board’s discretion, and each site will be considered individually, Brown said.

The Finley site is at 13521 Edwards St. Franklin is at 14422 Hammon Lane in Huntington Beach. The hearing will be held at 7 p.m. at Boos, 13890 Hammon Place, in Westminster.
