A 34-year-old man has been booked for murder in connection with a two-car accident that killed his 5-year-old son Saturday, police said.

Drivers of both cars involved have been charged with drunk driving and are in the Van Nuys Jail awaiting court appearances. The men are Pedro Guzman, the boy’s father, and Gilbert Ramirez, 24, of Sun Valley.

“It’s a little unusual,” said Los Angeles police Officer Jim Odin of the Valley Traffic Division, referring to car accidents involving two drunk drivers. “The son was pronounced dead at the scene because of massive head trauma.”

None of the three people were wearing seat belts at the time, Odin said. The child, William, was ejected from the car.

According to police, Guzman swerved into oncoming lanes and hit Ramirez’s pickup on Riverton Avenue near Arminta Street in Sun Valley.

Guzman of North Hollywood is being held on $1-million bail. Ramirez, who was booked for manslaughter, is being held on $35,000 bail.
