SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Water District Panel to Weigh Rate Hike

Share

A possible increase in water rates for consumers will be considered as the Capistrano Valley Water District reviews its budget for fiscal 1994-95 Thursday.

The public meeting will be held by the district’s Water Advisory Commission at the district’s offices, 34206 Paseo Adelanto, at 6 p.m.

Water officials say the district may lose about $500,000 in state revenue. They fear legislators may transfer property tax revenue earmarked for water districts to other agencies.

The water district uses the tax income to replace aging pumping stations and pipelines, and district officials say a major revenue setback would either require a rate increase or severe cutbacks in renovation projects.

The commission will make budget recommendations to the district board of directors. For more information about the meeting, call (714) 493-1515.
