Parolee Accused of Killing Girl, 16

A parolee accused of shooting his 16-year-old girlfriend to death during a dispute over a paging device is scheduled to be arraigned today in Antelope Municipal Court, authorities said.

Deputy Dist. Atty. John A. Portillo said he filed one count of murder Monday against Manuel Guadalupe Sanchez, 19, who was arrested Saturday on suspicion of killing Nicole Inuma of Llano.

Sanchez was released from state prison in January, after serving time for receiving stolen property, said Rosario F. Santillan, supervisor of the Antelope Valley Parole Unit. “He was seemingly adjusting well,” Santillan said. “He had no violations whatsoever.”

The shooting occurred Friday afternoon when Inuma went to the Sanchezes’ apartment to retrieve a pager that Sanchez had taken from her and was using for his business, sheriff’s investigator Mike Lee said.

Lee said Sanchez initially told investigators that a third person entered the apartment and shot Nicole. That statement “didn’t square with what the witnesses in the neighborhood had seen or heard,” Lee said.

Sanchez later told deputies that he shot the teen-ager accidentally, Lee said.
