* Aeroflot Russian International Airlines begins twice-weekly service between Los Angeles and Moscow next Thursday, using Russian-built Ilyushin 62 aircraft with a 12-seat business class section and 120 seats in tourist class.

The airline will also offer 72-hour cargo service using the planes, which will fly direct with a stop in Anchorage. Currently, only charter flights are available direct to Moscow from LAX.

This summer, the airline will switch to newer, quieter wide-body Ilyushin 96 aircraft and will offer the first regular nonstop flights between Moscow and LAX. In the meantime, the Ilyushin 62 is flying with a temporary federal waiver of noise requirements. Aeroflot serves Moscow from San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Washington, Orlando, Fla., and Miami. It also flies from Seattle to Khabarovsk in Siberia.
