CERRITOS : School Fiscal Advisers May Stay, State Rules

Share

State school officials have rejected the ABC School District’s appeal of a county Office of Education decision to send a team of fiscal advisers into the district.

Patrick Keegan, an assistant state superintendent for school business services, said ABC officials failed to convince the state that the district had resolved its financial problems. ABC officials said they may take their battle against the county to court.

The county sent in fiscal advisers last month, after an analysis of the district’s $69-million spending plan showed that ABC will have a budget deficit of $2.8 million in the next fiscal year.

The advisers, who have the authority to overrule the district’s spending decisions, last month rescinded the ABC board’s approval of a teachers’ contract that includes a 1% salary bonus and reduced class sizes.
