For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* There are lots of vegetables now for transplanting--check them out at your local nursery.

* Prune your spring flowering shrubs (weigelia, spireas, lilac, etc.) to encourage new growth, which will bear flowers next year. Remember you can prune them while they are in bloom with the advantage of using cut branches for arrangements indoors.

* Consider setting out several varieties of herbs in your garden--many are tolerant of heat and drought, and all enhance the flavor of food.
