‘Screen Saver’ Patent to Be Reviewed: The Patent and Trademark Office will re-examine a broad patent covering advertising on computers that was granted in 1992 to a La Costa, Calif., company. Earlier this year, Software Advertising Corp. complained that a PC Dynamics “screen saver” program featuring the Energizer Bunny violated its patent. PC Dynamics, based in Westlake Village, licenses the bunny image from Eveready Battery Co. The patent office commissioner, Bruce Lehman, decided to take another look at the patent after he was made aware of similar technology that existed before it was granted.
