‘A Few Good Men’

This brisk and familiar 1992 courtroom drama is as pleasant to watch as it is predictable. More than anything else, it is a tribute to pure star power. Like “The Caine Mutiny” before it, this movie is centered around a trial in a military courtroom and would like you to think about such weighty topics as the misuse of power and a young man’s struggle to find himself. But its true reason for being is to give Tom Cruise (pictured) and Jack Nicholson the kind of juicy roles they do best. Cruise plays Navy Lt. J.G. Daniel Kaffee, a self-confident military attorney. Nicholson’s pivotal role as man-eating Marine Col. Nathan R. Jessup is a treat. Demi Moore also stars as a passionate lawyer working with Cruise (TMC Sunday at 11:55 a.m. and 8 p.m.).
