Education: Loyola Honors Writer Coleman

Writer Wanda Coleman has been named to the Fletcher Jones Endowed Chair of Literature and Writing at Loyola Marymount University.

Coleman, best known for her poetry and stories, is the author of seven books, including “Hand Dance,” “African Sleeping Sickness” and “Heavy Daughter Blues.” Her university teaching appointment is for two years.

Coleman has received broad recognition for her work, including a Guggenheim fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts literary grant and a California Arts Council fellowship grant. She also writes the “Three on the Town” column in the Los Angeles Times Magazine and is co-host of a poetry program on KPFK radio.
