Dr. Chris Landon on Tuesday was appointed the director of the Conejo Valley Family Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, a fifth satellite health clinic set to open next month.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved Landon’s appointment on a 4-0 vote. Supervisor Vicky Howard was sick and did not attend the meeting.

Supervisor Maggie Kildee praised the decision to open the clinic in Thousand Oaks. The other clinics administered by the Ventura County Medical Center are in Simi Valley, Ventura, Oxnard and Santa Paula.

“Thank goodness it’s going into Thousand Oaks,” Kildee said. “As soon as it’s open it’s going to be full.”

Although the clinic will be open to everyone, it will cater mostly to low-income residents on Medi-Cal, estimated at as many as 7,000 in east Ventura County.

Landon is the medical director of the county’s Pediatric Diagnostic Center in Ventura, a position he has held since 1989. He said he will continue to work at the center, but that three new pediatricians will help ease the workload there.

The location on Thousand Oaks Boulevard was chosen for maximum visibility and convenience of east county residents, he said.

“We’re trying to get geographically closer to people,” he said. “Instead of having to waste time going up and down the Conejo Grade, we will come to them.”

The clinic will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week, he said. He will share part-time duties there with six other doctors.
