GLENDALE : Reward Offered for Tips in Hate Crime

Share

Civil rights activists have announced a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those who vandalized a building used by Armenian-American Boy and Girl Scouts.

Activists said the reward sends a message of no tolerance to perpetrators who painted swastikas on the wall of the Homenetmen Armenian General Athletics Union and Scouts building at 544 W. Broadway on May 13.

Two vans parked nearby were also defaced. After an investigation, police classified the incident as a hate crime.

“We don’t believe in reacting with fear. We must put those who did this in jail,” said Jan Tucker, vice president of the Armenian American Action Committee. “When someone puts out a swastika and targets some minority group, the message is very clear: ‘We want you dead.’ ”

The reward money was collected from members of the Armenian American Action Committee.

Representatives from the Armenian General Benevolent Union, the San Fernando Valley/Northeast Los Angeles National Organization for Women and the Los Angeles County Peace and Freedom Party also participated in the announcement.

Anyone with information about the crime can call the Armenian American Action Committee at (818) 830-2794.
