7 Memorial Day Events to Be Hosted by Area’s Legion

The American Legion District 18 will be host of the following Memorial Day services on Monday throughout the San Gabriel Valley:

* The Grand Army and Women’s Relief Corps’ traditional program will be at 9 a.m. in Pomona Memorial Park, 502 Franklin Ave., The program will include participants from service and veterans organizations and a message by Mayor Eddie Cortez. An open house will be held at Charles P. Rowe Post 30, 239 E. Holt Ave., after the program.

* Oakdale Memorial Park will hold a service at 10 a.m. hosted by the Charter Cove American Legion Post 755, 1401 S. Grand Ave., Glendora. After the service, there will be a potluck lunch at Post 755, 20516 E. Arrow Highway, Covina.

* West Covina American Legion Post 790 will host a noon service followed by refreshments at 330 N. Azusa Ave.

* Rep. David Dreier (R-San Dimas) will speak at a special POW/MIA service at 11 a.m. The service will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park, the Gardens, Gate 1, 3900 Workman Mill Road, Whittier.

* The Pasadena Area Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post will sponsor an 11 a.m. service featuring the American Legion District 18 Honor Guard, Mountain View Memorial Park, 2400 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Altadena.

* The Upper San Gabriel Valley Allied Veterans Council will host a 10 a.m. service at Live Oak Memorial Park, 200 E. Duarte Road, Monrovia. The program will include participants from veterans and service organizations, a special tribute to Gold Star Mothers and speeches by Dreier and the mayors of Arcadia, Monrovia and Duarte.

* Judy Chu, mayor of Monterey Park, will speak at City Hall, 320 W. Newmark Ave., at 11 a.m. After the program, there will be a buffet lunch at Monterey Park Post 397, 338 S. Ramona Ave.
