BEHIND THE SCENES : Greek Is the Word

They savored souvlakia, sipped ouzo and danced to the sounds of a bouzuki at the Greek Festival at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Anaheim Saturday and Sunday.

Showing off the best of the Aegean Sea included a colorful display of national costumes.

Folk dancers performed outside the Byzantine church wearing beaded hats, braided vests, pleated kilts and other items that represented some of the country’s traditional dress, which varies from region to region.

Fine embroidery, silver jewelry, woven fabrics and other handicrafts of Greece were spotted on guests as well.
