Share

Golden West College has received almost $800,000 in new funding from several state grants, college administrators recently announced. The grants will be used by the community college to expand its services and research, President Philip Westin said.

“Golden West College has been actively pursuing grants as a way to bring in much needed non-tax dollars to support the college,” Westin said. “We see these grants as one way for Golden West College to remain at the cutting edge of matching learning styles to teaching styles and making better use of technology to help students succeed.”

The new grants received by the college include two aimed at helping handicapped students.

Among the grants received by Golden West was a $40,108 award for research into assessing language skills of deaf students. The college also received a $15,000 grant for “improvement of access and success in science and mathematics for educationally disadvantaged students.”
