BOYLE HEIGHTS : Judge to Be Honored at Benefit Luncheon
The Wabash Saxons, a group whose members grew up in Boyle Heights and continues to meet after 55 years, will hold its semiannual luncheon Friday to raise money for Boyle Heights organizations.
Mayor Richard Riordan will be the guest of honor at the luncheon at Taix French Restaurant, 1911 W. Sunset Blvd. The group will also honor U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson, who grew up in Boyle Heights.
The Wabash Saxons hold several fund-raisers a year and donate the proceeds to youth groups and charitable organizations in their old neighborhood, said member Hershey Eisenberg.
The group also holds a Sweetheart Dance and a day at the races for fund-raising purposes and to help keep childhood pals in contact with each other, Eisenberg said.
Tickets to the event are $20. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
