CLAS Test Is Part of State Educational Mess
* Sue Stokka, Billy Pricer and Tony Welch object to the California Learning Assessment System because it violates that part of the education code requiring parental consent. Yet by their vote, these trustees of the Antelope Valley Union High School District were unable to come to that consensus, to take the tenable position of parental consent.
As nobly stated by Bill Olenick and supported by Wilda Andrejcik, “We have to respect parents’ rights on both sides of this question.”
Stokka, Pricer and Welch have encouraged and invited, have given aid, comfort and credibility to attacks from without while illegally destroying the district’s integrity and viability from within. They have knowingly abused the power of their elected offices and let their own myopic views dictate their decision.
But what’s this I see on the horizon? The CLAS test has become a political issue. Now Pete Knight and the state Legislature and the candidates for governor are going to kick CLAS around. They’ll fix the CLAS test I’m sure. After all, they’ve helped make education in California 50th of the 50 states in funding--the lowest--and 50th of the 50 states in student-to-teacher ratio--the highest.
I can hardly wait.
