Deputies kicked and punched each other Wednesday in a second day of brawls sparked by heated discussions over how many members had to be present to conduct business at the National Assembly.

Two opposition deputies were hospitalized for head and arm injuries.

Wednesday’s hourlong brawl broke out after a ruling Nationalist Party officer announced the opening of the session when about one-third of the 402 members were present. The opposition Democratic Progressive Party wants the quorum increased to two-thirds to keep Nationalist members from skipping the lengthy sessions.
