Help-Wanted Index Falls in April: The Conference Board said the index fell 1 point to 116 from the previous month, up from 95 a year ago, indicating that the labor market recovery has slowed to a more sustainable pace. A survey of 51 major newspapers nationwide indicated that in the past three months, help-wanted advertising rose in all regions of the country except New England, where it dropped 3.1%. The East South Central region showed the strongest increase, with 25.3%, followed by the South Atlantic, with 19.4%; the East North Central, with 12.8%, and the Pacific, with 11.5%.
