NORTHRIDGE : 3rd Bomb Found at Nobel Middle School

A steel-encased pipe bomb damaged an outside drinking fountain at Nobel Middle School in Northridge sometime over the weekend, police said.

It was the third bomb exploded at the school in a week, police said.

The first two bombs, which were exploded at the school last Wednesday, were encased in plastic pipe, said Officer Lorie Taylor of the Los Angeles Police Department. Those bombs were taped to a window, said Robert Coburn, an assistant principal at the school.

Neighbors told school officials they heard an explosion at the school Sunday night, Coburn said.

The latest bomb was taped to a porcelain water fountain near the girl’s gym, he said.

The bomb did minor damage to the pipes below the drinking fountain, he added.

The Police Department’s bomb squad went to the school in the 9900 block of Tampa Avenue and picked up the remains of the bomb, Taylor said.
