TORRANCE : Teachers Seek Raises and Better Benefits

Share

Teachers here will seek an 8.8% salary increase for the 1994-95 school year, union officials said this week.

The Torrance Teachers Assn. also will ask for changes in health care, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, said spokesman Bill Franchini.

The group’s goal is to reduce employees’ out-of-pocket expenses, which have continued to rise although the district’s contribution to those costs has not changed since 1991, Franchini said.

Franchini presented the plan at Monday’s school board meeting. The board will hold a public hearing on the matter July 5.

After members of the board have an opportunity to comment, the district’s negotiators will meet with teachers union representatives.
