Police Recover 8 Stolen School Computers

Police investigators recovered eight computers stolen from Roscoe Elementary School, which was burglarized and vandalized last weekend by a group of four to six suspected gang members, authorities said Wednesday.

The computer equipment was recovered Tuesday afternoon from a motor home parked at an abandoned North Hollywood residence, said Detective Jay St. John of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police were called to an undisclosed location by an anonymous tipster, St. John said.

On Sunday, a 6-year-old saw four to six young men scale a fence, break a window on a metal door and crawl through it to enter the school in the 10700 block of Strathern Street, St. John said.

Investigators suspect the burglary may be the work of a local North Hollywood gang that used the house as a gathering spot, St. John said.

The burglars broke windows and furniture and took about 18 computers, causing an estimated $17,000 in damage and property loss, he said.

The district has 1,000 facilities across the city, with 13,000 buildings, Brown said. About 4,000 of the district-operated structures are located in the San Fernando Valley, he said.
