Merck Picks New CEO: Merck & Co. ended a lengthy search for a new leader by choosing Raymond V. Gilmartin, now chief of Becton Dickinson & Co., a top medical supply company. Gilmartin, 53, will succeed Chairman P. Roy Vagelos, a highly respected executive who steered Merck to healthy profits but who will reach the Rahway, N.J., company’s mandatory retirement age of 65 in November.
