EPA Seeks to Cut Aerospace Pollution: The Environmental Protection Agency said it wants the aerospace manufacturing industry to slash its toxic air emissions by 70%. The proposed rule would affect 2,800 plants that build and repair airplanes, helicopters, space vehicles and missiles, and would cost the industry $30 million the first year and $16.5 million annually after that, the EPA said. It was not immediately clear how much the proposal goes beyond the relatively stringent state and local environmental rules in California. The EPA’s proposed rule, which will now be subject to public comment, is one of hundreds mandated by the Clean Air Act of 1990, the EPA said.
