Orange County Business : Quiksilver Quarterly Net Up 40%

Quiksilver Inc., a Costa Mesa designer and distributor of casual wear and clothing for snowboarding and swimming, posted a profit of $2.8 million, or 42 cents a share, for the second quarter of its current fiscal year. That was a 40% increase from earnings of $2 million, or 32 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Sales for the quarter ended April 30 were up 28%, to $36.5 million from $28.5 million. For the first half of its fiscal year, the company reported a profit of $4.3 million, or 65 cents a share, which included a gain of $600,000 from an accounting change. That compared to earnings of $2.6 million, or 41 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Six-month sales rose 28% to $60.8 million from $47.5 million.
