Gas Blast Kills 1, Injures 87 at Building for Elderly

ALLENTOWN, Pa. —
Two natural gas explosions shook an eight-story apartment building for senior citizens Thursday, killing a 73-year-old man and injuring 87 other residents.
Mayor William Heydt said contractors installing a fuel oil tank apparently ruptured a two-inch gas main. The gas company received a report of leaking gas just 10 minutes before the explosions, a spokesman said.
