BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Appendectomy Sidelines Gott

Share

Jim Gott suffered through Wednesday night’s game in Miami with what he thought was food poisoning. But Thursday in Chicago, his conditioned worsened, and within a few hours he was undergoing an appendectomy at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. There were no complications, and he was put on the 15-day disabled list. He will be replaced in the bullpen by right-hander Rudy Seanez, who was called up from triple-A Albuquerque.

Gott was struggling and had been scored on in 10 of 27 games. He has a 5-2 record with a 5.13 earned-run average and one save.

Seanez was originally acquired by the Dodgers before the 1992 season from the Cleveland Indians for Dennis Cook and Mike Christopher. A back condition sidelined Seanez for the season. That November, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies for Jody Reed. The Rockies released him in the middle of last season and, after playing for San Diego, he signed a Dodger minor league contract last winter.

Seanez was 2-1 with nine saves and a 5.32 ERA in 20 games at Albuquerque. He struck out 26 in 22 innings.
