AMERICAN LEGION ROUNDUP : Coukos Takes Command in Santa Clarita Victory

Brad Coukos pitched a four-hitter and struck out four to lead Santa Clarita past Van Nuys West, 3-0, in an American Legion District 20 game Thursday at Hart High.

Coukos (1-0) threw 68 pitches and did not issue a walk.

Santa Clarita (3-0) scored all of its runs in the sixth inning on a pair of bunt singles, a sacrifice and two Van Nuys West throwing errors.

Mike Hanes opened the inning with a bunt single and R.J. Huish followed with another.

Mike Bland laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third, and Hanes scored on a throwing error.

Aaron Dean drove in Huish on a groundout and Bland scored on an error.

In other District 20 games:

Van Nuys East 4, Sun Valley 3--Rusty Howard struck out 10, allowing three singles and no walks in six innings for Van Nuys East at Poly High.

Francisco Dongo doubled and Cesar Hernandez hit two singles for Van Nuys East (3-1).

Encino 12, Granada Hills East 7--Brian Luderer and Brad Farlow each hit two-run home runs for Encino at Kennedy High. George Kassis had two hits for Granada Hills East.
