Tennis star Jennifer Capriati has agreed to enter a drug-counseling program to settle a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge, a Miami prosecutor said Monday.

A memorandum for deferred prosecution has been filed to admit Capriati, 18, to a program run by The Advocate, a nonprofit agency used by Dade County courts to dispose of minor criminal cases.

“If she successfully completes it, the state attorney’s office has the authority to administratively drop the case,” Dade County court spokesman Mort Lucoff said.

Acquaintances claimed Capriati used crack and heroin during a weekend of partying at a Coral Gables motel in May. She left a substance abuse clinic Friday after a 23-day stay.

Andre Agassi and Todd Martin were the main beneficiaries Monday when the seedings were announced for Wimbledon.

Agassi, champion two years ago, was seeded No. 12--five places above his world ranking. He has dropped in the rankings due to a long layoff at the start of the year following wrist surgery.

Martin, who beat Pete Sampras Sunday in the final of the Queen’s Club tournament, was rewarded with the No. 6 seeding, three spots above his world ranking.

As expected, defending champions Sampras and Steffi Graf got the No. 1 seedings for the tournament, which starts next Monday.

Holyfield, speaking through a spokesman from his Fairburn, Ga., home, said rumors of an imminent comeback have been blown out of proportion, but he is considering it.
