Clinton at Oxford

Share

I am totally confounded by the continual attacks against President Clinton by your newspaper and the media in general. Re “Clinton Trip Ends With Oxford Honors” (June 9), your article begins with “Clinton returned to the scene of his efforts 25 years ago to avoid military service in Vietnam.” This is the lead line for what is supposed to be a news report about an honor bestowed on the President by Oxford University.

The purpose of front-page news is to report current news, in an unbiased way. Your reporter is more concerned about events that took place when President Clinton was in his early 20s. Why not confine this bias to the opinion pages?

In his first year in office, President Clinton has fought and won the battle of NAFTA, which by the latest economic reports is working to the benefit of our country. He’s passed a budget, he’s working on sorely needed health-care reform and he’s passed a gun-control law. He’s working harder than many of our past presidents. Why the media seem determined to attack and destroy the presidency is really hard to fathom.
