Music Notes : Seal Beach Fest to Begin; Pacific Pops Series Set

The 20th annual Seal Beach Music Festival will begin Thursday with music by Purcell, Haydn, Mendelssohn and Janacek played by the Haydn Orchestra under festival director Alan Parker. Lawrence Sonderling will be the soloist in Haydn’s Violin Concerto No. 2.

The series of free concerts will continue:

* June 30: Milcho Leviev, piano: works by Bach, Haydn, Chopin and other composers.

* July 7: Festival String Quartet: works by Haydn and other composers.

* July 14: Sonderling and Carolyn Osborn, violins; Jan Karlin, viola; Alan Parker, cello; John Jensen, piano: quintets for piano and strings by Schumann and Shostakovich.

* July 21: Jensen, piano: works by Froberger, Haydn, Chabrier and other composers.

* July 28: Young Artists Guild program, with winners of the Music Teachers Assn. of California State Convention competitions: works to be announced.

* Aug. 4: Cuarteto Ysaye de Los Angeles and guests: works to be announced.

* Aug. 11: Southwest String Quartet: works by Horatio Parker, Ives and Dvorak.

* Aug. 18: Mark Sullivan, piano: Beethoven’s Sonata No. 28; Mozart’s Rondo in A minor, K. 511; Ravel’s “Valses Nobles et Sentimentales”, Scriabin’s Sonata No. 4.
