Share

Universal Medical Center and Koryo Health Foundation Community Clinic will host a health fair expo this week to provide free health screenings for residents of Pico-Union and Koreatown.

The health fair is open to everyone in the area, but is especially targeted at residents whose primary language is either Spanish or Korean and who have had difficulty locating appropriate health care services.

“We’re catering to the needs of Koreans and Latinos,” said Roseann Hahn, an administrator at Universal Medical Center. Staff members who speak Spanish, Korean and English will be on hand.

Services to be offered include tests for diabetes, pulmonary function, hearing problems, tuberculosis and pregnancy, along with eye exams, spinal exams, immunization for children, physicals and health education programs.

The expo at Universal Medical Center, 2015 W. Olympic Blvd., runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and June 26 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Organizers are prepared to provide free screenings for up to 3,000 people during the week.

With the financial support of the major sponsors--Midway Hospital Medical Center and United Health Plan--the staff will also offer free blood chemistry tests to the first 70 people in line on each day of the fair. After the first 70 people, a fee of $15 will be charged for the tests; all other health screenings are free.
