Art: Gallery Owner Replies to Comments

In response to the letter written by Mae Gabriel-Brax on June 5, 1994, I would just like to say that Ms. Gabriel-Brax, who considers herself my competitor, is mistaken or misinformed. We have been in business for close to four years and hold regularly scheduled exhibits of works by emerging and museum-stature artists. Galerie Lakaye participates in prestigious art fairs around the country (Art L.A., Chicago International Art Exposition), frequently hosts lectures on Haiti and Haitian art, and I often create exhibits for the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department.

We do not sell lingerie, jewelry and dishes at Galerie Lakaye. I believe Ms. Gabriel-Brax refers to a Christmastime event which I organize with my friends every year, when we get together and sell gift items for fun, and hopefully profit. I have been doing this for years before even opening the gallery, and it has become a much-anticipated event by friends and clients alike (this gallery is my home too).

Finally, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all the friends, patrons and art connoisseurs who, in the face of detraction, continue to show their support and loyalty to Galerie Lakaye.
