The Cutting Edge: Computing / Technology / Innovation : POSTCARD FROM CYBERSPACE : O.J. Debate Rages On, On-Line

Share

If you haven’t yet been saturated by media coverage of the O.J. Simpson saga, you can continue the discussion in cyberspace.

On CompuServe, conversations about the Simpson affair occur in the Issues forum, the Journalism forum (where you’ll find some journalists criticizing the coverage), the Legal forum (the finer legal points of the case and prospects of O.J.’s conviction or acquittal) and the Sports forum (where arguments rage between loyal fans and detractors). You can speak your mind or simply read others.

On Prodigy, you can jump to the Sports Bulletin Board and choose the Football-Pro topic. There are several dozen subjects being discussed, from “O.J. Setup? Mafia” to “OJ Squeezed.” You can also jump to the headline page and keep up to date with breaking developments.

On America Online, you can use keyword NPR to join National Public Radio’s “Talk of the Nation,” a live call-in radio show broadcast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where you can add to the running commentary. Or use keyword Court TV to take a peek at Court Television’s message board, which has devoted a whole topic to O.J.’s arrest.

In the Usenet area of the Internet, several news groups (as these forums are known) carry discussions that run the gamut from adulation to disgust. You might try alt.fan.oj-simpson, rec.sport.football.pro, talk.rumors, alt.tasteless.jokes, alt.true-crime, alt.lies and alt.prison. Just point your favorite Internet news reader software to these discussion groups. (For example, type tin -q alt.fan.oj-simpson.)
