Nestle Says It Won’t Buy Quaker Oats: Contrary to recent rumors, “we will not venture into the American cereal market,” Nestle Chairman and Chief Executive Helmut Maucher said at a news conference. “We are not intending to acquire Quaker Oats.” Maucher said the Swiss conglomerate would be prohibited from taking over Quaker Oats because of provisions set by its 1990 joint venture with General Mills Inc.
