BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Piazza Takes Lead in All-Star Voting
The latest totals show that Mike Piazza has not only passed San Francisco catcher Kirt Manwaring, but leads by about 200,000 votes in balloting for the National League All-Star team.
Last season, the Philadelphia Phillies’ Darren Daulton was voted in by the fans and Piazza was selected by Atlanta Brave Manager Bobby Cox.
Piazza is batting .340 with 15 home runs and 65 RBI over 67 games.

Brett Butler is 14th in voting for outfielders, with teammate Henry Rodriguez ahead of him by about 60,000 votes. “It doesn’t matter as long as I get the respect of the guys on this team,” Butler said of the voting.
Butler is batting .328 and going into Tuesday’s game he led the league with a .443 on-base percentage.
