German journalists Peter Stracke and Lars Becker will be sharing a lap-top computer for the rest of the World Cup after Stracke’s was stolen Wednesday from the press venue next to the Pontiac Silverdome.

Stracke and Becker work for Germany’s Sports Information Services, which they hailed as the world’s largest sporting news agency.

Stracke said his computer was stolen from inside a briefcase at the venue while he was attending Wednesday’s game between Romania and Switzerland.

For convenience, many journalists leave their computers at the main press center during games.

“I’ve covered three Olympics and the World Cup in Italy, and I’ve never seen this,” Stracke said. “I go all over the world and never see or hear anything like this.”

Welcome to America.

So who gets first dibs on the remaining computer?

“Before each match, we will fight for it,” Becker said.
