GM Fuel Tank Case Settlement Hits Snag: A Texas Court of Appeals reversed a lower-court approval of a settlement that would allow General Motors Corp. to distribute $1,000 coupons to 650,000 Texas owners of its 1973-87 Chevrolet and GMC pickups with “side-saddle” gas tanks that can explode if the vehicle is struck from the side. The side-saddle tanks are mounted outside the frame rails of the vehicle. GM said it is disappointed by the ruling in Texarkana and that it continues to believe the settlement approved last November is a good one. “We believe that the decision is wrong,” GM said in a statement. “We intend to seek reconsideration and will appeal to the Texas Supreme Court if necessary.”
