Tales From Truckee

Share

Dianne Klein obviously feels a fondness for Truckee that I don’t. (“Truckee Stop,” May 15). I drove into Truckee last winter just as a snowstorm hit. Instead of risking the drive up a steep hill in the snow with my wife and 2-year-old daughter in the car, I parked in the Safeway lot and asked the people we came to visit to pick us up in their four-wheel-drive vehicle. Despite our friend’s assurance that the lot was a safe place to park for the night, I wasn’t terribly surprised to return the next morning to find the car had been towed. I was disgusted to learn, however, that the ransom to retrieve my car after a tow of less than a mile was $230! There is a difference between depending on tourists for income and preying on them. Truckee, at least in this instance, clearly sanctions the latter.
