Speaking of journalists, to Senan Molony of the Dublin Star goes the homer-of-the-week award for this item after Ireland’s 2-1 loss to Mexico:

“At least New Jersey won’t have furnace-like temperatures such as the 115 Friday (in Orlando), which surely contributed to Ireland’s downfall. For Ireland to have held the Mexicans to 2-1 in such circumstances is virtually the moral equivalent of a tie in any case. So we must fancy our chances to stay in this tournament a little bit longer.”

Speaking of journalists, Part II, columnist Larry Guest of the Orlando Sentinel wrote after Saturday’s Belgium-Netherlands game that it “could have been mistaken for an Alabama-Tennessee football game; everybody was wearing red or orange and speaking in strange tongues.”
