Justice Department Says Microsoft Antitrust Suit Near: Department officials said negotiations with Microsoft Corp. are in the final stages and that they are close to bringing a lawsuit against the company. They said Microsoft is trying to persuade the department not to bring a civil lawsuit stemming from a long-running federal antitrust investigation of the world’s largest software company. But officials said an announcement could come soon, although it might be delayed at the last minute by the negotiations or by company appeals to senior Clinton Administration officials to review the case. The Redmond, Wash.-based company said action did not appear imminent because government lawyers are still asking for documents and information.
