WORLD CUP USA ’94 / THE FIRST ROUND : Spotlight : FAT OF THE LAND

Belgium’s French-language daily, Le Soir, published today a small story written by player Georges Grun on his impressions of the trip from Orlando to Washington: “We are heading toward Washington. Everything is made so that it happens as quick as possible. Traveling in such conditions is quite pleasant. Furthermore, a telephone is available on the back of our seat in the airplane, usable by credit card. It is always reassuring to know you can call somebody in case the plane crashes. . . .

“Georgetown resembles more what we are used to seeing at home: numerous nice cafes and restaurants, fashionable boutiques open until late at night, a few antiques shops.

“This morning we had a walk in the parks. It is incredible to see the number of people who run. (Americans) work out, drink Diet Coke, but in general they are all fat, and without complexes; show me your fat, and I’ll show you my cellulite! In the land of the hamburger, the Big Mac is king.”
